Getting Out of Debt the Bible Way

The Bible, the Word of God, has a lot to say about money, wealth and debt.

At PowerHouse Christian Center, we are cutting up credit cards (after paying them off!).

24"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

Money is a tool and should serve us, not the other way around. When we are in debt, we are slaves to the organization who holds the debt.

God meant for us to have a full life, not a life filled with lack and poverty. Take a look around your home. What do you truly own outright? Or do you still own the credit card companies, the mortgage companies, the credit union or the bank for all that 'stuff'?

Here are some preliminary steps to getting out of debt:

STOP SPENDING! Only spend on the essential. That is, bills, food, shelter, transportation to and from work. All else is extra.

STOP USING CREDIT CARDS! Try to go on a cash basis only for everything.

STOP PAYING INTEREST! If you must use credit cards, only use ones who offer cash back along with a lower interest rate. Call each company and find out verbally what you are paying in interest and late fees (percentages)

MAKE A BUDGET! If you are having trouble with this one, go online to fine examples of budgets and fill in the blanks or call the team at PowerHouse to assist you.

STICK TO YOUR BUDGET! Learn to say 'no' to yourself.
